Russ connects with rapper singer Rex Life Raj for this jam. The song is a feel good danceable track.
Yet another OVO artist is set to release an album this month. The new single debuted on beats 1 with Zane Lowe yesterday and seems to be getting some serious attention. The song has catchy lyrics accompanied by a somewhat unique dance hall beat.
We only knew about this album hours before it was dropped, but now we are absolutely pumped for it. There have been rumors of a collab album with Future and Young Thug before, but never anything definitive. On my first listen through it does not disappoint. The project is stacked with bangers all the way through. I can guarantee you hear at least one of these songs at every house party this fall and winter. My personal favorite songs so far are Three and Real Love. Hit up the comments to let us know what you think of the collab album.
The Dreamville artist, Lute, is living up to expectations. He definitely is retaining his raw hip-hop sound, which is what J. Cole loved so much about him when he first decided to sign him. Whether or not Lute will blow up on a mainstream level like Cole did is still yet to be determined. Keep up the good work young Lute.

Wu-Tang Clan recruits the mean monday rapper R-Mean for this new song. The track is rooted in the classic boombap sample hip-hop style that Wu-Tang came up in. It’s worth it to go check out the entire new Wu-Tang Clan album that came out last Friday. Method Man and Ghostface show us that they are still top tier lyricist.
If you don’t know Snoh Aalegra you may recognize her voice from Drake’s More Life track “Do Not Disturb”. She is a Swedish singer-songwriter with a gorgeous voice and serious talent. The R&B singer connects with Logic on this track on this new chill, soulful, lo-fi song.

As of yesterday Gucci’s new album Mr. Davis is out! Fans of Gucci have been going crazy with all the music the Atlanta rapper has put out since his release from prison last year, and guess what this is just the beginning. Guwop already puts out music at an absolutely ridiculous rate, releasing three full length albums in 2016 and now two in 2017 and if you look on spotify there are actually more like 12 projects dropped in that time period including mixtapes and collaboration projects. Now get this Gucci promises that in 2018 he will go independent and release a mixtape EVERY OTHER DAY.
Okay since we’re at such a historic time in Wizops life and career I think it’s appropriate to recap his life and prolific influence on hip-hop.
Radric Davis was born in February 12th 1980, in Bessemer Alabama, and from that point on he was destined for big things. At a very young age Davis’ father was on the run from law enforcement due to selling crack cocaine and heroin and was non-existent in Radric's life. Davis’ mother returned to school when Radric was very young, therefore he was mainly raised by his grandmother.
At the ripe age of six years old Radric’s older brother introduced the young talent to his first hip-hop music and the six year old took a liking to it immediately. Then at the age of nine the the family moved to Atlanta Georgia. At first the family struggled to find a stable living environment and were surrounded by drug influenced crime. The family eventually found a more permanent home in East Atlanta where the boys went to school. It wasn’t long, however, before young Gucci began partaking in the drug scene himself; he began his career as a drug dealer while in the eighth grade.
In the ninth grade Davis encountered his first violent interaction and was robbed, from that point on he began carrying his own gun, and violence and gang feuds followed. Davis was able to graduate high school, and he even attempted a year in college where he received a scholarship, but it wasn’t long before Davis was caught with crack cocaine, kicked out of school and sentenced to 90 days in a county jail followed by a probation period. Following his release from prison Davis began to take music very seriously.
In 2001 he release a project titled La Flare. He then connected with rapper Lil buddy and producer Zaytoven with plans to start his own record label. Looking back meeting Zaytoven was one of the most life changing times of Gucci Mane’s career and life as the two would go on to produce countless records together. In 2002 Davis finally signed a distribution deal with Tommy Boy Records and really got his career started. He would then collaborate with Young Jeezy, fellow Atlanta rapper, and start working on his debut album, Trap House.
This marked the rise of Trap music to the mainstream of hip-hop. T.I., Jeezy, and Gucci Mane would continue to grow and develop the subgenre influencing countless young artists in south east America in the years to come. Once the genre really took shape with its heavy 808 bass, scary minor key melodies, cutting snares, and fast creative high-hat grooves the city of Atlanta began to grow a generation of star producers and rappers who worshiped the genre and their leader Gucci Mane. Gucci has since released at released 12 albums and who knows how many mixtapes in addition to starring in 15 or so films.
Though Davis was reaching unforeseen heights in his music career, he was still highly involved in the drug layden, crime scene of Atlanta in the early 20-teens. He faced several arrest charges during this time period and in 2014 he pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. This would put Davis in prison for two full years. (Check out one story behind an epic evening involving beef with Young Jeezy in this video. Story at 5:20. This noisey video series depicts the Atlanta trap music scene very well; I highly recommend to any hip-hop fan.)
This time in prison, however, proved to be a turning point in Davis’s life. The Atlanta rapper took this as an opportunity to turn his life in a more positive direction. “I was drinking pints of lean a week and smoking pounds of weed and just doing all kinds of drugs,” he told REVOLT [magazine]. “The whole way I was handling myself before I went to jail was just so negative [and] it showed in my body.” While in prison he was able to get clean, start working out regularly, and eating a healthy diet, which lead to his dropping 50 pounds. By the time Wizop was released he was in a completely new head space. The “East Atlanta Santa” was then able to focus on his future as an artist, a role model, and becoming a family man. In November of 2016 Gucci proposed to his girlfriend at an Atlanta Hawks game in front of thousands of fans and their wedding date is set for this coming Tuesday.
Today, some of the most popular producers and rappers are Atlanta natives, and will credit Gucci as their number one influence as artists. Guwop is a living god to these southern artists and does not appear to be slowing his role or taking a back seat to these up and comers either. The 37 year old rap star plans to continue to share the trap thrown for years to come with his prodigies and Atlanta friends such as Migos, Future, Young Thug, Mike Will Made It, Metro Boomin and of course Zaytoven.
Can’t wait to hear more from the living legend this coming year. Could be his most prolific year yet! Learn more about the life of the Trap God in his autobiography The Autobiography of Gucci Mane.

YG Hootie, is a close friend of Kendrick Lamar from their early music days in Compton. On this track they collaborate by showing love for their city. The song is raw and heavy, while still capturing a mainstream hip-hop sound. Hootie gets production from DJ FU of Eardrummers records to give the track extra sauce.
If you’ve been keeping up with MF Doom you’ve probably been watching Missing Notebook Rhymes from time to time. Unfortunately Adult Swim has discontinued the series. We still do have more creative Doom content ahead of us, however. He has just released his second single, “2Strings”, for his upcoming album WESTSIDEDOOM. The album is a collaboration with rapper Westside Gunn. The duo once again gets production from the Alchemist to give the track vintage hip-hop sound.

OVO’s Baka Not Nice just dropped a new banger. He brags about having money his pockets now and being released from prison. Look out for more music from this young rapper.
K Camp links up with Sonny Digital and Rich The Kid, Bobby Kritical, and 1WayFrank for this chill track. The Atlanta rapper has released music consistently in 2017 after disappearing from music for a few years. Hopefully Camp will keep up the good work now that he’s back.
Ski Mask The Slump God gets production from the iconic producer Timbaland as well as a feature from Migos’ Offset. Could The Slump God be planning another project? Let us know what you think.
Problem dropped the song “Top Off” with a video to supplement the track earlier today. It seems an odd time of year to release a song about “riding with the top off all summer”, but it’s a dope jam either way. He connects with 9th Wonder for production and gets a feature from Airplane James. Look out for the full album later this fall.
